For most of my current work the final shape is determined by how the steel responds to intense heat and pressure. I utilize a range of forging, fabrication, and machining techniques to create a starting form. This form is modified in different ways to influence the final shape to a certain degree. However the steel often has a mind of its own, and I'm often surprised by the range of shapes that can result from similar starting forms.
I started working with steel 14 years ago while living on Fairview Farm in central Pennsylvania. I initially set up shop in a 9 x 9 foot cinderblock shed and eventually built a larger shop in the old barn.
Move to Portland Oregon
In 2015 I packed up the shop and moved to Portland Oregon. I work in an old warehouse building in the shadows of the St. John's bridge.
